[suit-ASOS, bralette-True & Co., bag-Marc Jacobs, shoes-Simmi Shoes, red lip-Anatasia Beverly Hills] The hair is a bonus, bomb braid out!

Hello, my loves. So I wrote this blog post 4 days before my wedding and forgot to publish it. I must have been busy multitasking with wedding stuff. However, I’m going to post it as is, not going to change anything, so here it is!

Quick wedding update, because that’s what my life is about currently *rolls eyes*. It’s literally 4 days away (lesser than that if I’m being honest)! *Yikes*. I eat, sleep & breathe all things wedding these days. As the time boils down to the final days…I feel more and more anxiety! It’s like I want this planning process to end so badly, but I feel I’d miss it a bit afterward. Honestly, I hope I don’t! Haha. Check out my latest post if you haven’t on 10 things people don’t know about weddings!

I decided to share a quick style post to ease my mind.

How to style a two-piece suit.

On to the good stuff! It so happened that I wore this dope two-piece yellow suit to a wedding about a month ago (August). I know I can’t get away from wedding talk. It was a hit! I mean everyone was asking me where I got it & giving out compliments like it was my birthday! So, yes I’ll spill the deets because I love you all. I got this set from ASOS. What’s crazy is that it went out of stock like 10x and my size came back in stock days before the wedding. Shoutout to Asos premier 2-day delivery (sometimes because USPS be playing)! So how I decided to style my two-piece suit was to pair it with a bag and bralette. My bag is from Marc Jacobs (it can be a makeup bag also) & my bralette was gifted from True & Co a while back. I then took my ‘cinderella transparent glitter’ Simmi London heels I wore earlier this year on my birthday and a classic red lip from Anastasia Beverly Hills! It worked out so perfectly even I was shaken! My best outfits are the ones I don’t overthink and then find last minute. That’s honestly how the majority of my outfits go. When I try to plan plan plan, it never feels right.

Quick style tip: Reuse pieces from your closet with new finds! It’s definitely what I tend to do a lot and it works. Don’t let the “omg you wore that and posted before” naysayers fool you. It’s YOURS and you can wear it 10x and post every single time if you wanted. Do you, be you, dress to please you! Period. I get a lot of questions about my outfits and all I can really say is that you just got to go with how you feel, what fits your body type and work it with confidence. That’s it. No long explanation.

Thanks for stopping by! My wedding is 4 days away. Stay tuned! xoxo MJ.

Take Responsibility.

All Photos by Duran Andrae.

It’s my 3-year blogversary and I am full of gratitude and love. Thank you to everyone reading this right now. I appreciate your love + support. There are so many more great things in store for my blog. Stay tuned.

This post discusses steps to taking responsibility for our actions. As I get older I understand more and more that what shapes us as “adults” and even as humans period is being able to acknowledge when we’ve done wrong or hurt someone and try to do better for the next time. Here is what I came up with. Hope it helps someone out there.

Taking responsibility here.

  • Understand
  • Acknowledge
  • Plan
  • Change
  • Build/Rebuild
  • Grow
  • Love

1. Understand.

  • Taking the time to hear how others feel.
  • Not taking it as an attack, but just a form of expression.
  • Understanding that you may not agree 100%, but that doesn’t give you the right to disregard what is being said.
  • Includes/involves asking questions for clarity (if needed)

2. Acknowledge.

  • After understanding the person’s point of view, take responsibility for your actions.
  • Apologize, see a need for an apology and say “I’m sorry”.
  • Know that something is wrong and needs to be fixed.
  • Admit and let go of pride.

3. Plan.

  • Figuring out actions to take to make the situation better for both sides.
  • Give suggestions or show an effort in writing things to be different.

4. Change.

  • Let go of the negativity that may have consumed your heart.
  • Action.
  • Start over, clean slate. Prepare for harvest.

5. Build/Rebuild.

  • Establish new relationships.
  • Step by step, now it’s time to have more communication.
  • Fresh start.
  • New opportunity.
  • Requires a lot of work + effort for it to last.

6. Grow.

  • Recognize that the little sprout turned into a beautiful (flower) plant.
  • Bare good fruit.
  • Great attitude.

7. Love.

  • Togetherness.
  • Unity.
  • Genuine appreciation + love for one another.
  • Walking in agreeance + compromising.

I Bring Me.

DSC07334DSC07313DSC07303DSC07326DSC07374DSC07338DSC07324DSC07352 [PhotographerDuran Andrae. Hit him up!]

Hello my loves, thanks for stopping by!

“What do you bring to the table?” I bring me!

How many times have you been questioned or even second guessed yourself in terms of what you bring to the table? Whether it’s at work, school or in a relationship/friendship, I probe you to never let anyone make you feel like you bring anything less than great to the table. It’s normal to have doubts or even fears when it comes to overcoming situations, however, that does not mean it’s the last stop for you. Today’s post is long overdue, but it’s good and you’re going to want to keep reading!

It’s no surprise that life is filled with great moments and memories, but what about the not so great ones? What about the times when we go through something that’s so terrible that you give up on the very thing that makes you, you… I’m here to say don’t. I’m literally speaking to myself in this post also because to be completely honest with you guys, sometimes I am at a level of low where I lose sight of the bigger picture. I lose sight of the very thing that makes me amazing and that makes me, me. I’m here to say understand your value, your worth. I know, it’s a bit cliche, however cliche or not it is relevant 24/7.

How do I realize what I bring to the table?

Some of you may wonder, some of you may already know and that’s good. Hear me out, I mean I’m not a guru or the wisest person in the world, but as I go through life I learn, grow and eventually share those findings/lessons. In my opinion, how to realize what you ‘bring to the table’, you have to be open and real with yourself. That is the absolute first step. You cannot give what you do not have. Ask yourself these questions: 1- What are my strengths? Weaknesses?, 2- How can I use them to grow and to help out someone else?, 3- What makes me who I am? (Not the things you have materialistically, go deeper with your self-talk). That’s step one. Next, you have to own it. Be so sure of you (well after you discovered everything answering the 3 questions that is) that nothing or no one can throw you off your game. I mean the surety like we have in math problems like “2+2=4”. That level. Then you can move on to step three. This step is very important y’all. NEVER, in any case, in any stage, no matter where you are in life APOLOGIZE FOR WHO YOU ARE. Period. Stop that before you even start. God made you the way you are for a reason. How can you change perfection? More importantly, how can you apologize for being perfectly you? It doesn’t add up. It never will. It is inevitable, people will either accept or deny you and that’s okay. Don’t give them satisfaction or power over your life.

LASTLY, #KUWMJ Graduate!

After completing steps 1-3, congratulations you are now a graduate of KUWMJ University for being who you are, knowing your worth and owning yourself. You cannot keep focusing on things/or people who won’t change their opinions about you. What you can do is accept your flaws, work on them and embrace what you can offer. It is an unpopular opinion to say “do you”, but DO YOU. If that job can’t see your worth leave it. If that man/or woman cannot understand who you are or cannot accept what you offer, leave them.

Sometimes making the hardest decisions comes with the best results.

So the next time someone asks you what you bring to the table, make sure you say “I bring me”. That should be your first response because you know that YOU are that “it” factor. If anyone tells you differently, make your own table and on that table on allowing people who value you, your time and acknowledge that you are spectacular.

I heard this quote and I ran with it, “God will never take something away from you, without replacing it with something better.”

Hello, my loves!

Today’s post is all about our smartphones! I have teamed up with Kroma to share with you some of their cases that I’m so in love with currently! If you are as clumsy as I am or you just love to switch up your phone cases…this post will do you well!

…So today’s post is a collaboration with Kroma phone cases.

Kroma cases. The TEA you’ve been waiting for…

You ever heard of this brand? If not let me tell you some things.

If you’re a BLOGGER or FASHIONISTA, you know how it is when it comes to showing personality in our style. Kroma cases allow you to make a statement and show off your uniqueness. Another thing that is super important is that these cases aren’t bulky, hard to grip in the palm of your hand and they’re not masculine looking. You know this is a THUMBS UP on my end because I could be a girly girl, haha! I know some of you are like hmmm…sounds good but, ‘babygirl, what are the cons?’. I have literally ONE con for ya. At first, I was a bit confused on how to get them on and off, guess why? Let me tell you why… I didn’t follow the instructions because I thought I knew what to do, *rolls eyes*. Always follow directions people, it can be detrimental to yourself. Other than that, everything I’ve mentioned previously stands strong.

Get into this… I chose…

So if you know me, you know I love flowers, so I had to have a floral case. I chose the blackberry bliss from the floral art collection! I also chose the forget me not blues from the 0073.UV collection, pocahontas from the classic prints collection, and sylphina angel from the ribbons & bows collection.

Fun fact: Kroma cases are BPA free. If you don’t know what that is, you’re not alone. I was lost at first honestly, but BPA is an industrial chemical that can transfer both orally and via the skin. It can lead to heart diseases and infertility. How crazy is that? This made me think about all the times babies played with my phone and tried to put it in their mouth! Nibbling on BPA contaminated phone cases. Glad that this case is BPA free! This is why it is important to do our research.

GLOU Wine Bar

In case you were wondering about the location, photos were taken at Glou wine bar in Brooklyn! It’s a new spot I discovered that’s very good for relaxing and enjoying some downtime by yourself or with a friend. It’s very cozy and the managers are really friendly. They have some breakfast dishes as well as dinner dishes. Check them out when you get the chase!

mellow yellow vibes!

Hello loves,

Snapseed 5

I hope that you’re having a beautiful week. Well as you know last week I celebrated my 2-year blogversary (read here) and I got a lot of compliments & questions about my outfit so I decided to do a style post giving you the details of my outfit! I also wanted to let you guys know how crazy the day of this photoshoot was!

QUICK STORY TIME

So, the day before my shoot I got my hair all flat ironed and neatly pin curled and everything. The day of the shoot came and there was a “chance” that it might rain, but I thought I had a chance to get a few shots in (plus it was nice outside). Let me tell y’all, it got foggy as soon as I actually started shooting and POOF went all my nice straight hair. NATURAL HAIR WOES! My hair cannot handle any type of heat or fog or water lol. So that’s why my hair looked a little frizzy in my photos. Such is life y’all. Welcome to being a black girl with natural hair. I was a bit sad that my hair was not perfect, but life is full of surprises! Lesson: You can’t cry over spilled milk. Get another bottle! I’m still proud of these photos & I’m still HAIR for it! What do you think?

oversized jacket + self-love.

Hello loves,

Every time I take pictures I make sure to have at least one laughing shot. The reason behind it is because no matter how much I may feel down or whatever situation I may be going through, I know I could look back at my photos and smile. If you ask my family and friends, you’ll know that I’m that girl who would always want to take pictures, when everyone is like no let’s just “live in the moment”. I like to live in the moment too, but I like to have pictures to look back on and bask in those memories. When I was younger I never really had that much pictures, so I made it my duty to always take pictures so I can have them with me.

IMG_6988Enough about my picture history, I just wanted to share a meaningful quote to encourage you that no matter what it is you’re going through someone else has it way worse. Learn to appreciate what you have and always have a love for others and yourself. As I always say, “self-love is the best love” don’t ever forget it. Life is filled with unexpected situations. Things may not always go as planned, but we can make the best of what life has to offer now.

Live your best life.
Dance in the rain.
Take chances.
And do more of what you love this year…in STYLE!

girl gang.

So cliché to even have bought this t-shirt, but honestly it means so much more.
There’s so much girls out there that are not believing in themselves, not loving what they see when they look in the mirror, girls who are just being put down by all the guys who cannot see their worth.
This t-shirt represents those girls.
I bought it because girls matter. ALL GIRLS.

Every girl in every shade in the rainbow.
It’s so sad to see that women are still being degraded and mistreated and devalued and underestimated!
I say that every girl is beautiful and should know it. Always.
re-affirm yourselves by saying:
“I am beautiful.
I am strong.
I am intelligent.
I am worth it.
I am perfect.
I am fearless.
I am smart.
I am wise.
I am important.
I am powerful.
I am amazing.
I am enough.”
Do not ever let anyone ever tell you different.

the denim jacket.

It’s sprinter and I’m still trying to keep up with this change in weather everyday. One day it’s hot, the next it’s cold, then rainy days turn into snow days! Can we catch a break? Well here in NYC there was a day where the weather was lovely and this was the outfit I chose to wear.

The denim jacket have been in effect for years now. Going back to the days of Elvis down to modern day fashion icons like rihanna and pharrell, they all rock their denim jackets like no other! This jacket gives me a 90s feel every time I wear it and I’m always asked where I got it from, well the jig is up…I’ll tell you guys! First, I must tell you it keeps me warm because it is lined with fur both inside and on it’s collar. The dress is from Zara’s basic collection and it’s super comfy, super casual and I’m a sucker for peplum hems! As for the sneakers, they’re super comfy as well and for the price they aren’t too bad. It is actually cuter in person. I was a little hesitant about “justfab.com” because of the price and quality, but I would definitely recommend these sneakers! I’m a sucker also for finding things at reasonable prices too.

If you want comfort, get basic dresses + on the go sneakers that are super stylish.DSC_6816DSC_6794DSC_6788.jpgDSC_6823DSC_6807DSC_6650FullSizeRender.jpgDSC_6678
